Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you register — and a few things worth knowing once you’re in.

Registration & Purchase

How do I sign up for a workshop?

Find the course that’s right for you and click “Reserve Priority Access.” This is free and commits you to nothing — it just tells us you’re interested. Once enough interest has built for that course, we’ll set a start date and send you an email to register and pay.

What’s the difference between “Reserve Priority Access” and registering?

Reserving priority access is free and simply puts you on the list for a course. Registering — which happens later, once we’ve set a date — is when you actually pay and secure your seat. You’ll never be asked to pay before a real start date exists.

When does registration actually open?

Registration opens once enough learners have reserved a spot in a given course. Everyone on that course’s priority list gets an email the moment a date is set.

How much do workshops cost?

Each six-week workshop is $699.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, along with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Affirm, and Afterpay for anyone who’d prefer to split the cost into installments.

Is there a refund policy?

Full refunds are available up to 7 days before your course start date. Once your cohort begins, registration is final.

Format & Technology

How are sessions delivered?

All sessions are delivered live online via Zoom, with interactive activities running throughout using Kahoot.

What do I need — a computer, tablet, phone?

Either one device (a desktop or laptop with a camera, microphone, and keyboard) or two devices — one for Zoom, and your phone for our interactive activities, joined by scanning a QR code at the start of the session. Full details are on our Technology & What to Expect page.

Do I need to install anything before my first session?

Just Zoom, if you don’t already have it. Our interactive activities run through Kahoot, which doesn’t require an account.

What happens if my internet drops during a session?

We recommend testing your connection ahead of time. If your connection regularly drops or buffers during video calls, it’s worth sorting that out before your session — a dropped connection during a breakout group is disruptive for everyone, including you.

Are sessions recorded?

Sessions may be recorded for internal quality-assurance purposes only. These recordings are never shared, posted, or used for marketing — they’re for our own review to see what can be improved or enhanced.

During the Course

How many people are in a cohort?

Cohorts are capped at twelve people, so you’ll get to know your classmates over the six weeks.

What happens if I miss a session?

You can make up a missed session in a future cohort at a rate of $116.50 per session.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes — a certificate of completion requires attendance at all six sessions.

How long is each session, and how is time structured?

Each session runs two hours, with two ten-minute breaks. You’ll have two 40-minute content blocks, followed by an open-ended closing segment — genuinely the fun part.

Choosing a Course

Which course is right for me?

Each course has its own “This Course Is For You If…” page with a short self-assessment to help you figure out if it’s the right fit before you commit. Browse workshops to find yours.

What’s the difference between the three “What Did You Say” courses?

Boardroom Edition is useful for people who attend meetings at a mid-to-senior management level and want to learn the “lingo” that might otherwise get lost in the moment.

Manager’s Toolkit is designed for managers at all levels, covering the phrases used to give direction, scope, and feedback to employees and contractors.

Social Cues introduces the common English phrases you’ll hear in a business-social or purely social situation.

All three courses are intended to help you gain confidence — not only in understanding what you’re hearing or reading, but in using these phrases yourself, to boost your sense of fitting in rather than standing apart.

I’m not sure I have “advanced enough” English — is this course for me?

There’s no test or proficiency level to pass. If you’ve ever nodded along to something you didn’t quite understand, or wondered whether you’re missing a layer of meaning in a conversation — that’s exactly who these courses are for. Check the “This Course Is For You If…” page for the course you’re considering for a clearer sense of fit.

Trust & Safety

Is this a safe space for LGBTQ2S+ learners?

Yes. Red Flannel Workshops is an explicitly welcoming space for LGBTQ+, intersex, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities, and all learners are expected to treat each other with kindness, respect, and courtesy.
